Clinical trials
Clinical trial launched to test new treatment technique for bowel cancer.
A trial of chemotherapy with or without radio-embolisation for bowel cancer that has spread to the liver (FOXFIRE). Dr. Sharma and his colleagues are looking for new treatments that will help to control bowel cancer that has spread to the liver and cannot be removed with surgery. In this clinical trial, the researchers are looking at a treatment called radio-embolisation, also known as Selective Internal Radiation Therapy (SIRT). It uses very small radioactive microparticles made of resin, called microspheres. The FOXFIRE trials aims to: - See if the combination of radio-embolisation and chemotherapy works better than chemotherapy alone for bowel cancer that has spread to the liver. - Learn more about the side effects of radio-embolisation when it is combined with chemotherapy.
